Alejandra Montoya (Bogotá, Colombia, 1989) is a Self-taught artist and designer currently based between Madrid and Hamburg.
She graduated with a master’s degree in marketing and worked for almost a decade in the creative market on three different continents. In parallel, she has been developing her artistic skills by training in oil painting, drawing and digital illustration.
In 2019, she decided to pursue her passion and dedicate herself entirely to creating mix-media art; from large-scale acrylic paintings and textile design to analog collage; technique in which she has specialized.
Alejandra has recently begun selling and exhibiting her works at design events, auctions and art contests.
I think of my collages as magical coincidences that come to life almost by accident. As fragments of an imaginary reality that draw inspiration from nature, the unconscious and the role of women in today’s society.
The creative process is essential for me. I play with images, I juxtapose textures and resignify objects until each element undergoes a conceptual metamorphosis. At certain point, I feel like the artwork speaks to me and that’s when I know it is complete.
